A little bit about me…
Dr Lisa Unwin
PhD, MPsych(Clinical), BA (Hons)
I have been working as a clinical psychologist since I graduated from the University of Western Australia in 2016, where I completed 8 years of full-time university training to be awarded a Masters degree and PhD.
In addition to my university training, I completed a further two years post-graduate registration period. I am a fully-registered member of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
After graduating university, I worked in the public sector as part of a specialised program supporting young people with school refusal/avoidance and oppositional behaviours. I enjoyed this work, and it was incredibly rewarding to watch young people engage positively with school and improve their familial relationships and quality of life. Whilst expanding my own family, I chose to work in private practice at the Perth OCD clinic, where I’ve ignited a passion for working with individuals with OCD. I have been incredibly lucky to work alongside compassionate, expert colleagues who are committed to improving the lives of individuals with OCD.
Now at my solo private practice located in Edgewater, in the northern suburbs of Perth, I am excited to use my expertise to provide a service to support individuals with OCD, anxiety and related conditions. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder has such a significant impact across all areas of a person’s life, and I find it incredibly rewarding to work together and watch my clients become empowered to cope with their anxiety and adopt the flexible thinking skills needed to tolerate uncertainty.
This can initially feel terrifying, impossible, and overwhelming. I will work with you, at your pace, to tailor treatment to your needs.
My areas of interest…
At Flexible Thinking – OCD and Anxiety Clinic, I have a special interest in the treatment of all subtypes of OCD for adults and children. I am skilled in the psychological treatment of OCD in individuals with a wide range of complex co-occurring conditions.
I have a niche interest in supporting neurodivergent women with co-occurring OCD and BFRBs. I am a member of the Autism and OCD Special Interest Group for the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) and I continue to work alongside expert colleagues internationally to look for ways to better support clients in this under-researched area.
I am a board approved supervisor and I thoroughly enjoy teaching and mentoring. My research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and I have presented research at national and international conferences.
My approach…
I am a neurodiverse-affirming therapist who believes strongly in the value of exploring an individual’s unique differences and using this information to tailor my treatment approach.
I enjoy a collaborative, transparent, and down-to-earth approach in my relationships with clients. I aim to create a comfortable and welcoming therapy environment that you can access both in-person or via online telehealth.
